What does the Bible say about the Peace of God?
Isaiah 26:3 NIV “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.“
The world is so busy, keeps us full and anxious. Not always comfortable yet seeking more. Little do we realize that what we are seeking is God’s peace. It’s actually built within us.
As our world has developed, we have been taught to rely on ourselves and not on God. In this verse, we see we can have God’s perfect peace when we steadily trust in Him for our answers. Stress begins to wane, as long as we trust in Him.
What is a powerful verse for peace?
John 14:27 NIV “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
These are the words of Jesus Christ speaking to His disciples. He is preparing them for when He no longer will be with them. He’s warning them of their trials which will come because of their work for Him.
The verse is speaking to us as His disciples that we can have His perfect peace. We will have difficulties in this life, but because He has overcome them, we can to by trusting in Him.
Is peace a fruit of the Spirit?
Galations 5:22-23 NIV “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
When we keep our eyes on Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is able to work through us. This produces the fruit of the Spirit.
The peace of God is included in the work of the Holy Spirit within us. The closer we walk with Him, the more we are at peace with the world around us. A benefit of this peace is that it affects those around us which glorifies the Lord.
What kind of peace does God give?
Isaiah 9:6 NIV “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace in this verse. The word here for peace is “shalom” which means “completeness, soundness and welfare”. Blue Letter Bible
God’s peace is not temporary like human peace. He is called the Prince of Peace or leader of complete, sound and rewarding peace.
We want a peace to help us deal with our problems. Knowing the God of perfect peace is there for us at all times encourages our heart.
What does the Peace of God bring?
We Can Have Peace at All Times
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”
Sitting quietly, enjoying the peace? How long does it last? Not very long. We want a peace that lasts. Relying on God for His peace will last, even through chaos. It’s a different kind of peace, one we can trust.
Protects Our Hearts and Minds
Philippians 4:4-7 NIV “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Going to God in prayer brings so many benefits to Christians. It relieves our anxieties, gives us a grateful heart, answers our requests and bestows His peace on us.
This peace is not like any we have had before. We cannot understand it’s power and quietness. Not only that, it protects our hearts and minds from anxiety and anything that attempts to break God’s hold on us.
God’s Love and Peace Will be with You
2 Corinthians 13:11 NIV “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”
Paul is admonishing the Corinthians for the behavior some have had. He wants them to have unity in the Spirit because their testimony to unbelievers is at stake. These are behaviors he encourages. One of which is living in peace by having the Lord’s attitude when we are dealing with other believers. When we have God’s peace, He is there for us in love and peace.
How to experience the peace of God?
Salvation Through Jesus Christ
Romans 5:1 NIV “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
The place to begin in Christianity is always making sure of your relationship to Jesus Christ. Have you accepted what He did for you on the cross, dying for your sin so you can be in fellowship with God both in this life and eternity? Without this gift you cannot have the peace of God.
Live By the Spirit
Romans 8:6 NIV “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
Want peace? Living according to the way of God is the only real path to the peace of God.
We do not have to do this by ourselves. God’s Holy Spirit has been given to us for help but we have to choose to be led by Him. We are blessed with life and peace when we do.
Obeying His Word
Psalm 119:165 NIV “Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
Psalm 119 is a great passage for reading about how helpful God’s Word is. The more you read and study, the more you love His Word.
Contained within the pages are comfort, joy, and encouragement. It teaches how to handle relationships, losses, wins and anything in this life.
Aside from the joy it brings, we are promised peace for reading it. What other book can make that promise?
Seek and Pursue Peace
1 Peter 3 :10-11 NIV “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.“
In this verse we see things we should avoid in our lives as Christians. Keep our conversations free from gossip and foul language. Staying away from sin and evil. But we are to pursue peace. We are rewarded by loving life and seeing good days.
Conclusion
As Christians we do not have to hunt for peace. Our God is the master of peace and all we need to do is walk in His way to receive it.
God blesses us with so much. God’s peace is a benefit of our faith and all believers can have access to it.
