This post is part 2 of the “Walking with God Through Life’s Hard Seasons” Series. In this part, we’ll explore how to replace fear with faith, holding on to God’s promises when life’s storms try to shake our trust.
Many times we become overwhelmed in our problems only because we forget who we are trusting. Going to the source is how you can overcome fear in your trials. See what 1 John 5:4 says about your faith.
“for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
In this verse, the world is the devil and those who follow his way. When you are having problems, they stem from this world system. You can have victory over your problems because of your faith in Jesus Christ.
This is a promise from God and one you need to think about when things are rough. God’s promises are for the taking.
Here are more promises from God to help you silence fear in life’s storms:
- God is Your Stronghold
- You Have God’s Power Over Fear
- Jesus Promised Peace
- The Promise of Prayer to Overcome Fear
- A Ever-Present Help
- His Love is Always Present
- Conclusion
God is Your Stronghold
What is a Stronghold?
According to the Topical Encyclopedia, a stronghold is a place of security and defense.
Psalm 27:1 NIV “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
David is giving his personal testimony here to God’s character. He says that the Lord is his place of security and defense. When you are trusting the Lord, this is a promise to you that God’s character is true.
As you go through difficult situations, God, your salvation, is there with you to light your path. He is your strength to get through the rough moments.
Claiming your faith in God’s character quiets the fear within your heart and restores peace.
You Have God’s Power
What is God’s Intention for You?
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
When struggling with problems without the Lord, you can feel weak and discouraged. That’s not what the Lord intends for you. The Holy Spirit that you have within you gives you the power to overcome weakness.
Maybe you’re not sure this will work? Remember the faith you had in Jesus Christ when you accepted Him as Savior? Faith works at all times.
Want to have peace without fear through tribulation? Trust Him to give you what you need.
Jesus Promised Peace
The Lord’s Comfort to Us
John 14:27 NIV “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jesus is talking to the disciples just before He was arrested. He told them things that they didn’t quite understand at that time.
They were feeling a little lost. Jesus tells them that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will remind them of the things Jesus had told them. They needed encouragement.
He explains that He is leaving peace with them that they have never experienced before, so that they can trust Him and not be afraid. This is for you today, as well as the disciples.
The Promise of Prayer to Overcome Fear
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Think about your relationships. How far would they go if you didn’t talk? Not far at all.
Talking to God is just as important in your relationship with Him. The more you communicate, the closer you become.
Do you have a regular time of talking to Him? Try setting a time every day for a week. See how it works.
In this passage,
- You can go to Him with anything.
- Have a grateful heart.
- You will have peace.
- Your heart and mind are guarded in Christ Jesus.
This is a tremendous promise to help silence your fears in trials.
God Answers
Psalm 34:4 NIV “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Depending on the Lord and seeking Him, He does answer and delivers you from fear.
An Ever-Present Help
Psalm 46:1-3 NIV “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
How often is God there for you? All the time. Why then do you have to wait?
God always knows what is best for you. Some solutions need more time to work out for your best.
Because God is Your Refuge-You Don’t Have to Fear
When you place your trust in Jesus Christ, He becomes your refuge-a place to hide when you are afraid.
It’s such a strong refuge; you are protected against everything. If the world crumbles around you, there is no reason for fear. Your faith in Jesus Christ silences your fears.
God’s Love is Always Present
Romans 8:38-39 NIV “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Most of the things mentioned in Romans 8:38-39 create fear. None can separate you from the love of Jesus Christ. What better defense from fear than to know God loves you enough to help in your distress?
This means that everything Satan throws at you; will never separate you from the protection and comfort of God’s love.
Remember the comfort of your mother’s arms? Running to her in fear when no one else could comfort your young heart? God’s arms are ready to envelope you in His perfect comfort.
Conclusion
You can silence your fears by your faith in Jesus Christ. Of course, your faith alone is not the solution. It’s where your faith is placed–in Jesus Christ. He is your strength.
Having faith in God’s promises keeps your focus on Him and where your help lies. Reading God’s Word refreshes you and keeps you walking in God’s will.
There are many wonderful promises in God’s Word to encourage you in all aspects of daily life. These are just a few that can help silence fear by focusing on Jesus Christ-the object of your faith.
