You have been praying earnestly to the Lord for some time about a problem you have been having with a friend. The answer hasn’t come; you don’t understand what’s taking the Lord so long to answer. You’ve talked several times to Him about it. Why hasn’t He replied?
Sound familiar to you? You are not alone. We want to find quick answers so we can find relief from our circumstances. Has God disappeared from our lives? Here’s what the Lord says to us:
Isaiah 41:10 NIV “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
We are going to discuss ” How to Believe God is Working When You Can’t Hear Him”. Below are some points we’re going to cover.
- God is Always With You
- God Hears You
- God Strengthens You in the Waiting
- God is Always Working
- Faith That Trusts God’s Character
- Conclusion
God is Aways With You
Joshua 1:9 NIV “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
When Moses passed away, and Joshua became Israel’s leader, the Lord encouraged him that He would be with him everywhere in all circumstances.
Is this true for Joshua alone because of his leadership qualities? The same promise is for us today. We have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit present with us at all times.
God has not left you. In His wisdom, He’s waiting until the time is best to answer. He knows the situation inside and out, something you cannot know.
God Hears You
John 9:31 NIV “We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.”
In this verse, God tells us He doesn’t hear everyone. Sinners in this verse is unbelievers although as Christians we need to make sure when we go to the Lord in prayer, that we don’t have any unconfessed sin. This keeps our relationship with the Lord on even ground.
1 John 5:14 NIV “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
This feeling God is not there when we pray, is a lack of confidence in Him. This verse states the promise that He does hear us if we have asked in His will. We have to acknowledge He knows best, and then wait for His answer.
Romans 8:28 NIV “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God is not interested in giving His children bad things, but in giving them good things. In our humanness, we tend to regard God as one of us, dependent on our emotions.
God Strengthen’s You in the Waiting
Isaiah 41:31 ESV “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
This is such a beautiful verse. The image of the eagle in flight, carried upward by the wind, depicts the freedom we have in Christ. That is what we can experience in the Lord as we wait, strong enough to carry through until He answers at the right time.
Psalm 27:14 NIV “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
David had many trials in his life. We have testimonies in Psalms that attest to his strength in the Lord. Even though he, like us, sometimes wondered why God had not answered immediately, he always ended up praising the Lord for His help. The answer was always on time.
It can seem very hard to wait at times, but having the Lord’s strength to help is a wonderful experience. Are you having trouble waiting? Talk to the Lord about it.
God is Always Working
John 5:17 NIV “In his defense Jesus said to them,“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
This is Jesus’ answer to the Jewish leaders who criticized Him for healing the man on the Sabbath, who could not walk. God is always working. It may not seem like it, but the evidence will eventually come to light.
Because God is quiet, it doesn’t mean He’s not helping you. Remember, God is perfect in all ways, so His solutions are the best for you.
Ruth’s life carried her from Moab to Bethlehem. It seems like the stages of her life, but the Lord directed each step to bring her to His will for her life. Ultimately, it benefited the nation of Israel. She was the grandmother of David, the lineage of Jesus Christ. (Ruth 1-4)
God was quietly working behind the scenes in Ruth’s life. You never know what good God may bring to others through you.
Faith That Trusts God’s Character
Hebrews 11:1 NIV “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
When we are waiting for God to answer, we need to fall back on our faith in Jesus Christ. If we have all the answers, why would we need faith?
Until we go to be with the Lord, our faith involves hope and assurance in something we cannot see. Our faith needs to be strong enough to wait on the Lord when we can’t see what He is doing. Our confidence in Him should be strong.
Hebrews 10:23 NIV “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
We can have great confidence and hope in Jesus Christ. He has proved His promises will be completed. He is faithful.
2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV “ For we live by faith, not by sight.”
The final word is, as Christians, living by faith does not involve sight. That is difficult, but that is where our faith in Jesus Christ steps in.
Conclusion
As a human, believing in something you can’t see is hard. Having faith as a Christian when you can’t see is easier when trusting Jesus. He gives you power to overcome human weakness and build faith in Him.
“How to Believe God is Working When You Can’t Hear Him” is by knowing who He is and how He works. Recognizing these points will help build you faith when you can’t hear Him. He is there, working for your best.
