1) You Are a New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Just think, your old nature is not just renovated, but transformed into something new.
What does that mean? You now have capabilities you did not have before. God has given access to His power and ability to use it for His glory.
Remember the butterfly, my favorite analogy. Beautiful to look at, light as a feather, moves like silk, like our new nature. The unattractive caterpillar goes dormant, and upon release from the cocoon, has been transformed into something beautiful.
This is you. As you identify with Christ, your purpose is established. No longer do you need to “find yourself”.
Are you seeing yourself as Jesus sees you?
2) You Are Free from Condemnation
Romans 8:1 NIV “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,”
What is condemnation? According to Oxford Languages, it’s “the action of condemning someone to punishment.”
Jesus Christ not only takes our sin away on the cross but also takes the punishment.
All those things you have done in the past and are still thinking over, they’re forgotten. You don’t have to think about them again. Jesus took them away.
Don’t let your identity be held in prison. You are not your sin. Give it to the Lord.
3) You Are Forgiven and Redeemed
Ephesians 1:7 NIV “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace”
In Jesus’ time, the word redemption was used when an enslaved person’s freedom was either purchased by a benefactor or by themselves. Put yourself in their place, how would you feel to be set free from a life of slavery?
That is what Jesus Christ did for you. He redeemed you from sin by dying on the cross in your place. How does that make you feel? You are now free from the bondage of sin.
You are forgiven. Everything you have done, is forgotten. How often does that happen? Many times, people forgive, but how often do they forget?
Don’t let your past rob you of your future. Your identity in Christ means you are free to live for Him. YOU ARE FREE.
Remember, Satan goes around looking for you to focus on your past. Don’t let him.
4) You Are Adopted
Ephesians 1:4-5 NIV “For He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will—”
My daughter and son-in-law adopted five children. When they were adopted, they were accepted into our family as our own. They are as much my grandchildren as my biological ones. How often do you get to choose your grandchildren?
At the point of your trust in Jesus Christ, you were adopted into His family. You are now His, and the bond will never be broken.
You are holy and blameless in God’s sight. Think about it. You are so loved that God sees you as the best you can be.
This is all in agreement with God’s pleasure and will. God wants a relationship with you.
5) Christ Lives in You
Galatians 2:20 NIV “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are joined with Him in His crucifixion. Your strength now comes from Him, the life He lives in you. In gratitude, you live for Him.
You live by faith in Jesus Christ and do not have to feel inadequate ever again; everything you need is in Him.
Whenever you feel weak, read this verse and meditate on it. Remember, when you are weak, He is strong.
6) You Are a Child of God
John 1:12 NIV “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—”
God is our Father. Some tend to relate to Him by looking at their earthly father. Think about it. How can we compare a human to God?
God looks on us as His children. He didn’t have to give us that privilege. It was done out of His love for us–He chose us.
He has the same attributes as our father, but only better. Since He is the author of everything good, shouldn’t it be perfect? Remember, His love is unconditional.
When you begin to feel unworthy, look at how God sees you–worthy of His love and promises.
7) God Deeply Loves You
Romans 8:38-39 NIV “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
There are times when we are under stress from difficult situations, when we begin to think God is not there and doesn’t love us anymore.
Our humanness becomes overwhelmed with the situation, and we forget to talk to God about it. Then we wonder where He is.
Look at these verses above. What does it say? Paul was convinced that nothing could separate him from God’s love—nothing, not even difficult situations. Paul faced many of these, and He always knew God’s love.
Think he was special? He was different and could withstand the stress? Paul was just like us; his strength came from the Lord, not him.
God deeply loves you. He wants the best in your life. When you feel unloved, know God loves you.
8) You are the Righteousness of God
2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
You think about what Christ did for you on the cross–died for your sins. That is wonderful-even more wonderful is the fact that He was not an ordinary man, He is God!
In His deity comes perfection. A perfect God-man died for your sins. How is that? Because God loves you so much, He allowed His Son to die so you could live.
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, God sees you now as righteous! You no longer need to feel unworthy.
Identity in Christ frees you from the chains of sin! You are truly alive in Him!
9) You Are God’s Handiwork
Ephesians 2:10 NIV “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Handiwork is something someone has made. Humans are God’s creation, but here you are created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
Do you like to have a goal in your life? Here it is. Your purpose is to lead others to Jesus Christ and glorify Him.
“which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This goal or purpose was prepared for you in advance by God. That should make you realize how special you are to Him.
10) Your Citizenship is in Heaven
Philippians 3:20 NIV “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,”
Ever feel out of touch with what the world calls “living”? Here is your answer: you are.
As Christians, our values come from a different source. You are not a citizen of this world but of heaven.
Why is heaven so important? Because our Savior, Jesus Christ, will come one day and take us back home with Him.
Next time someone snubs you for your faith, remember, it’s not you, but God they are rejecting. Your security is in God.
